Commercial Window-Film Questions
What types of commercial properties do you work on?
We can tint all types of commercial properties, from retail storefronts and offices to hotels, condominiums, restaurants and medical offices. Whatever the building, we match the film to how the space is used.
Do you serve businesses throughout Maui County?
Yes. Eclipse proudly serves commercial properties across Maui.
Are you licensed and insured?
We are insured and can provide a certificate of insurance upon request.
What types of commercial window film do you offer?
We install Solar Gard commercial films. You can see the full range of commercial films at www.solargard.com. We’ll recommend options based on your building, your goals and your budget.
Can Eclipse work around business hours or occupied spaces?
Yes. We can work around your business hours and in occupied spaces. We plan our work to keep disruption to your staff, customers or residents as low as possible, and we’ll set the schedule with you during your project assessment.
How do you protect our space during installation?
We use drop cloths to protect your space and microfiber rags for cleanup. We work carefully in occupied spaces and leave the area clean when we’re done.
Can you evaluate a large or phased project?
Yes. Larger projects usually start with a site assessment, where we review glass types, window counts, access and scheduling needs. From there, we can provide a proposal and, when needed, a phased installation plan.
Can you reach high or hard-to-access windows?
We review access needs for high or hard-to-reach windows during the site assessment, so your plan, schedule and quote reflect what the project requires. We’ll always give you an honest assessment of what’s possible.
Do you work with property managers and condominium associations (AOAOs)?
Yes. We work with property managers and condominium associations (AOAOs), and we can provide the samples and product data your board or manager needs to review the work.
Can we receive samples and technical data?
Yes, upon request. We can provide film samples and manufacturer technical data so your team can compare specifications such as visible light transmission, solar heat rejection and UV protection.
How do you determine whether film is compatible with our glass?
We start by identifying your glass type, construction and condition, then review the film manufacturer’s compatibility guidelines. This matters because some film and glass combinations can add heat stress to the glass. Matching the right film to your glass helps protect your windows and keeps applicable warranties in place.
Will film change how our building looks from outside?
It depends on the film. Some films are nearly invisible, while others add a tinted or reflective look. Some areas of Maui, such as historic districts and planned communities, have design rules, so check any requirements before choosing a film. We can provide samples for review.
Can film reduce energy use?
Window film can reduce solar heat gain, which may lower cooling demand in some buildings. Actual results depend on your building’s orientation, glass, HVAC system and how the space is used, so we don’t promise specific savings or return on investment. We can share manufacturer performance data to help you evaluate your options.
Are there rebates for commercial window film on Maui?
Rebate programs change over time, so check with Hawaiʻi Energy, the state’s energy-efficiency program, for what is currently available. We can provide the product data or paperwork needed for a rebate application through our manufacturer, Solar Gard.
Can film fix hot spots and uneven temperatures in our building?
Yes, it can help. Sun-facing rooms, lobbies and offices often run hotter than the rest of a building. Solar control film reduces the heat coming through that glass, which can make those spaces more comfortable for staff and guests.
Can film reduce glare on computer screens and workstations?
Yes. Film cuts glare that washes out screens and causes eye strain, while still letting in natural light. This can make offices, front desks and conference rooms more comfortable to work in.
Can film help keep storefront merchandise from fading?
Film can help slow fading of displayed merchandise by reducing UV rays and solar heat. It cannot stop fading completely, since visible light and display lighting also play a part. Rotating displays still helps.
Do you offer privacy film for offices and conference rooms?
Privacy films can add privacy to glass offices, conference rooms and storefronts while still letting light through.
Can safety film help protect people if glass breaks?
Yes. Safety and security films help hold broken glass together, which can reduce the risk from flying glass and slow forced entry. They do not make glass unbreakable and are not a substitute for code-required safety glazing. Safety film options and ratings are listed at www.solargard.com.
Do you offer anti-graffiti film?
Anti-graffiti and protective film options are listed at www.solargard.com. This type of film protects glass from scratches and graffiti and can be replaced instead of replacing the glass.
Can you remove old, failing film from our building?
Old film that is peeling, bubbling or discolored can be removed and replaced as part of a new project.
How should our staff clean windows after film is installed?
After the film cures, clean with soft cloths or squeegees and an ammonia-free cleaner. Avoid razor blades and abrasive pads on filmed glass. We provide care guidelines for your team after installation.
How long does commercial window film last?
Commercial window film typically lasts 10 to 15 years, depending on the film you choose.
What warranty applies to commercial work?
Our warranties cover peeling, fading and bubbling for a set period, which depends on the film you choose. We’ll review the warranty that applies to your project as part of your proposal.
Can contractors or designers send plans and specifications?
Yes. Contractors, architects and designers can send plans and specifications.
Share the property, glass, objectives, schedule and any available plans or photographs. Eclipse will identify the appropriate next step for evaluation and estimating.
